Frame to Frame

¤ Mohammed Rafi completed his 25 years as a playback singer.

¤ Ritwik Ghatak joined the Film Institute of India.

¤ Ramu Kariat's Chemeen won the President's Gold Medal as Best Feature of 1965, the first Malayalam Film to win the honour.

¤ Karnataka govt. initiated a scheme to subsidize all films made in the State. The initial subsidy being Rs 50,000 for a B/W and Rs 1,00,000 for a colour film.

¤ Death of producer-director Bimal Roy and lyricist Shailendra.

Basu Bhattacharya
Basu Bhattacharya started his career by assisting Bimal Roy in 1958. Later, he directed some of the most critically acclaimed films like, Teesri Kasam, Aavishkar, Anubhav, Griha Pravesh, Tumhara Kalloo, Panchvati etc. He married Bimal Roy's daughter, Rinki Bhattacharya, much to Roy's disapproval. Basu made films on human relationships, but he himself failed on domestic front. Due to domestic abuse Rinki left him in 1984.
