¤ New Theatres Devdas directed by P.C. Barua becomes reference point in Hindi and Bengali Cinema.

¤ Maestro R C Boral introduced playback singing for the first time in the Hindi feature film Dhoop Chhaaon(1935). The song 'Main Khush Hona Chahun Ho Na Paaun..' had an all women chorus led by Parul Ghosh with Suprova Sarkar.

Gohar
Gohar was often termed as 'Glorious Gohar'. She was born in 1910 in Lahore. She left Lahore with film-maker Chandulal Shah to form Jagdish film and then Ranjit Cinetone Company. Gohar's first hit was Homi Master's Lanka Ni Laadi. Gohar acted in several Master films in roles especially scripted for her by Mohanlal Dave. She acted in many films. Chandulal along with her founded Ranjit Movietone.

Barua’s portrayal of Devdas was so lively that the made the tragic hero a legend. He directed both the Bengali and Hindi versions and played the lead role in the Bengali version. It has been said that Pramathesh Barua’s lifestyle made it possible for him to act the role of Devdas so convincingly.
