Bharat Vyas was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan on the 18th of december 1918. He graduated from Calcutta Unversity. He was very fond of historical and mythological stories, and by now was writing some poetry too. Then he came over to Bombay to write for a relative, B M Vyas. He got his first break in film industry in 1943, with the release of film Duhaai. W Z Ahmed of Shalimar Pictures invited him to Poona and offered him a job. There were Josh Malihabadi, Krishan Chandar and many more writing luminaries. Vyas was enjoying his work there and would have stayed on if it had not been that Ahmed himself decided to go to Pakistan when the country was divided.

Bharat Vyas was jobless after the departure of Ahmed. But very soon he received an offer from Gemini Pictures, Madras. Bharat Vyas rushed to Madras. He did many films with Gemini. But success continued to elude him. Of course he was polishing his craft in the meantime. After a while, he headed back for Bombay, where he now got more breaks, and many of these were mythological films. It was thus that he picked up a reputation that doesn't do himfull justice. He became famous for his mythological songs.

There are dozens of numbers where he wrote piercingly of life's other facets. In the songs like 'Raat Andheri Door Kinara..', 'Main yahan too wahan...', 'Maine peena seekh liya..', 'Jagmag Kagmag karta nikla...', 'Keh do koi na kare yahan pyar...' and 'Saranga teri yaad mein...' he used his writing skills.

In June 1982, Bharat Vyas was admitted to hospital after a severe pain in stomach. But he could not survive more than a few days after that. Finally he left the world on 5th of July 1982. He will be always remebered for his work and those meaningful songs that he left behind for all the music lovers.
