Shart
In the year 1954, Hemant Kumar's music in the film Shart became quite popular. With Shart, lyricist H S Bihari came into limelight. Although, Bihari had written few songs before Shart, but it was with this film only that he got the much awaited fame. The most peppy song of this film was 'Na Ye Chand Hoga Na Taare Rahenge Magar Ham Hamesha Tumhare Rahenge..'. This song was divided into two parts. Part one was sung by Hemant Kumar and part two was in Geeta Dutt's voice. Another song 'Chand Chhipne Laga Raat Dhalne Lagi..' was also sung by Geeta. Apart from 'Na Ye Chand Hoga', the song 'Mohabbat me Meri Tarah Jo..' was also sung by Hemant Kumar. The Lata-Hemant duet 'Dekho Wo Chand Chhup Ke Karta Hai Kya Ishaare..' became widely popular.

The film had three solo songs by Lata Mangeshkar, 'Piya Mai To Huyi Baawari..', 'Kaun Hoon Aur Kahan Hoon..' and 'Meri Taqdeer ke Maalik..'. Even Asha Bhosle sang four solo songs in the film, 'Dil Hai Mera Diwana..', 'Chala Kaafila Pyar Ka..', 'O Na Na Jana Na Chhod Ke..' and 'Raat Aayi Hai Mohabbat Ki Kahani Leke..'.
Shart was based on Hitchcock's 'Strangers On A Train'. Initially the film faced some censorship controversy and was banned. It was released later after few cuts and minor changes.
