The charismatic melody of Kardar's Shahjehan was evolved by none other but the very charismatic Naushad sahab. Although Naushad had composed music for several films before Shahjehan, but it gave him a chance to work with the great K L Saigal. The tantalising songs like 'Gham Diye Mustakil..', 'Kar Lijiye Chal Ke Meri Jannat Ke Nazare..', 'Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya..', 'Chah Barbaad Karegi..' and 'Aye Dil-e-Beqarar Jhoom..'., sung by Saigal saab won the hearts of the music lovers. In fact, 'Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya' was taken as the masterpiece. As soon as the film released Saigal saab passed away, therefore, due to his sad demise this song rose a wave of compassion all over the nation.

Alongwith this, the film had a duet song of Saigal with Mohd. Rafi, 'Mere Sapnon Ki Rani Roohi..'. This was the only song Rafi ever sang with Saigal saab. Apart from Saigal's songs, rest of the compositions in the film were sung by Shamshad Begum and Naseem Akhtar, which also became very popular. The songs were 'Jab Usne Gesu Bikhraye..', 'Jawani Ke Daaman Ko Rangeen Bana Le..', 'Aag Lagi Dil Me Wo..' and 'Barbad Na Kar De Kahin..'.
Shahjehan not only came as an immortal swan song of Saigal but also gifted to the film industry an indelible lyricist like Majrooh Sultanpuri.
