Afsar
In the year 1950 'Afsar' came as Navketan's first production, in which music was composed by great Sachin Dev Burman. It was with 'Afsar' only that Dada Buramn foever got associated with Dev Anand's Navketan Film Production. Dev Anand was very choosy for his films. He was always inclined towards the music of the film and he always wanted to have 2-3 songs picturised on him in the film. But, surprisingly, Afsar had none of the songs picturised on Dev Anand, who was playing the hero in the film, yet it was a box-office hit. Suraiyya, the heroine in the film, sang four solo songs which became very popular, 'Man Mora Hua Matwala..', 'Gun Gun Gun Gun Bole Re Bhanwar..', 'Pardesi Re Jate Jate..' and 'Nain Diwaane Ek Nahin Maane..'.

Suraiyya also sang a duet with Geeta Dutt - 'Preet Ka Naata Jodne Wale..'. Even Manmohan Krishna, who played an important character role in the film, had two songs to his credit, which too became very popular. The songs were 'Jhat Khol De Kiwad Pat Khol De..' and 'Sadhu Ke Ghar Chhokariyan Do..'.

To sum up, music of Afsarwas a soothing delight for listeners with beautiful lyrics by Pt. Narendra Sharma.
